6 tips when travelling to New York

New York, New York! It has always been one of those places to go back to! So much to do, experience and explore! A New York-based model and jewelry designer Anni Jürgenson shars her tips for making your trip unforgattable and which are the places you should visit while in the Big Apple! Enjoy!

– Anni’s favourite place to eat and her favourite food

Uni soba at Japanese sake bar “Sakagura” http://www.sakagura.com/

For casual lunch – “Dudley’s” at Lower East Side http://www.dudleysnyc.com/

All of their food is delicious but I especially loved the ‘Brown rice bowl topped with poached eggs, avocado, and pumpkin seed pesto’.

– 3 must-have things to pack with you when travelling (NYC has everything, but still…)

True, that 24h open “Duane Reade” has everything essential you might need, but basics like adpaters and enough cash should still be taken with. The best way to explore New York is to walk, not take Uber and sit in traffic jams. So pack your most comfortable shoes with you. (PS! It’s OK to wear sneakers at clubs in NYC.) And walk fast! Newyourkesrs have no tolerance towards slowly walkers in the middle of the streets.

– 3 most beautiful or important places to visit

Start with the classics –  Central Park and Metropolitan Museum of Art (especially its roof, where, during summer, you can drink a glass of wine and enjoy the amazing views to the park).

My other favourite museums on the Upper East Side are Guggenheim and Neue Galerie, that focuses on German and Austrian 19.-20- century art.

While you already are on that touristy track, then I suggest “Top Of The Rock” observation deck on the roof of  Rockefeller Center. You’ll get a good view on Manhattan and what-where everything is. I’ve been there for three times already – never gets old. https://www.topoftherocknyc.com/

My latest favourite discovery is Roosevelt Island – a tiny islan between Manhattan and Queens that is accesible via aerial tramway. Riding in a glass dome above houses and the river is an experience itself and I would definitely recommend it to everybody. On the tip of the island is Four Freedoms Park that is dedicated to president Franklin Roosevelt and it is actually designed by architect Louis Kahn, who was born in Estonia. http://www.fdrfourfreedomspark.org/

– cultural difference or specialty that you should know before travelling to NYC/USA

If you’ve never been to USA before, it might come as a surprise that a minimum of 18-20% tip is expected absolutely everywhere – cafe, taxi, beauty salon.

– which skin care product important to have with you while travelling and why?

Since the summers in New York are extremely hot and stuffy, refreshing face spray and blotting papers for oil and sweat are a must-have.

– best time to visit

Spring, when the cherry trees start blossoming in Central Park and all city parks are filled with tulips as well as lunching newyorkers. Equally beautiful is autumn in New York – weather is often rather summery even during September and October.
